How to Replace an audi a3 key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

suzuki-logo.jpgIn this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are different pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, as i think i've pretty much completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in the gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. The good news is they are very cheap and easily accessible particularly if you're looking at the Bosch unit which is what ours are. Alternately, GM's version this component is an excellent choice.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi tt key programming, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

It transmits a signal via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to regulate fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This part is common across the audi car key holder keys replacement audi key cost uk audi key replacement cost uk [privatehd.org] 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
